The story outsmarts you the reader and in the best games that have them I find myself going back to see what I didn’t see before. A good twist ending is like Bioshock where the story gives you enough information to figure out the twist on your own but still tricks you. One of my favorite books is Murder on the Orent Express. Spec-ops, Assassin’s Creed, Black ops, Bioshock and even Mass Effect all have twist endings and Dead Space has one too.

In the late 2000s, game devs had a hard-on for twist endings.

One of the main reasons I love Dead Space 3 is that it provided answers that fixed issues I had from its original’s story. Isaac’s story has massive issues from the moment you start Dead Space. In the “Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” does anyone care about Ichabod Crane’s story? No, its all about the horseman, the monster. The big picture like any good horror story. For Me, Dead Space has always been about the lore. The Love triangle is dumb but I think Isaac’s story in all 3 games is not very good. Now focusing on the story, yes it has pretty big issues. It’s not popping ads whenever you use a work bench. They could have had a better transition to it I will admit but it’s not enough to break the game for me. On a story basis, having a shop and credits in a 200-year-old abandoned fleet built by a foreign power would have been insane. If at any point in Dead Space 3 you need to consider Microtransactions. I have played Shadow of War I know what a game looks like when it’s designed for that so saying Dead Space 3 is built like that is just stupid. I watched MandaloreGaming’s for example review of Dead space 3 and he focuses on them in a way that makes the game sound like its mechanics are designed around Microtransactions because ammo is now universal and weapons are made instead of bought. Maybe that shielded me from the problems people had about them but you can just ignore them. I played the game a year after its release and didn’t even know about them in till 3 hours in and only because I hit the button for the store by accident. I find it hard to focus on a time exclusive problem like the Microtransactions that people are still complaining about. I still to this day do not understand the ridiculous amount of hate Dead Space 3 gets.
